HABIT CHANGE – AN HONEST OPINION FROM AN HONEST PERSONAL TRAINER!

 

It?s what we?re largely after right?

Changing bad habits gives us so much grief, pain, unhappiness.

Eating too much, drinking too much, changing our lifestyle, changing our body shape.

Countless hours thinking, worrying, crying.

It got me thinking recently??.

Why do bad habits plague us so much?

Then the answer dawned on me >>>>>>>

Because we practise them almost daily over years.

Prime example: Snacking in the evening in front of the TV.

It?s what we all have a tendency to do right?

Every. Single. Night. It?s a struggle not to.

((Even for a personal trainer who should know better!))

That?s a LOT of dedication to doing the same thing over and over again.

>>>>> Until we?re experts at it!

So???..

Think about the flip side of the coin then.

How do we create a GOOD/POSITIVE habit??????

Answer: Exactly the same way

Step 1: Choose a positive habit.

Step 2: Rinse and Repeat.

Step 3: Rinse and Repeat

Step 4: Rinse and Repeat

Etc.

Imagine doing something every day for weeks/months.

That?s QUICKLY going to become the norm.

Almost automatic.

And before long, you don?t even think about it.

It?s just what you do.

Sounds simple right?

NO.

We know that?s not true.

Habit change is HARD ??.. in the beginning.

No matter what the habit is.

There will be PAIN involved in the early stages.

((When most people give up i.e. New Year Resolutions))

You will need resolve, have to just bite the bullet and take the hit.

How do you make this pain easier?

–GIVE YOURSELF A REASON ?WHY?–

Why am I putting myself through the pain?

Why is it important?

If the answer is: ?I just wanna lose weight? ?.. you may struggle. It will be harder.

If you work out something COMPELLING like:

?When I went to the park with my kids and I couldn?t run around like the other parents because I was getting too out of breath and sweaty. I don?t what that anymore.?

This is POWERFUL stuff that will motivate you.

IF you constantly remind yourself WHY?

Habits are just habits.

If you?re good at habits, even bad ones, you can do it anytime you want (doing the above).
